Today is Kaylee’s 2 month birthday! Happy Birthday my little angel!
Unfortunately for Kaylee, we celebrated by going to the pediatrician’s office and getting her first round of immunization shots. Thanks to the suggestion of one of my best friends, Jill, I nursed her while she was getting the shots and even though she did cry, it only lasted about 5 seconds, if that long. Thank you Jill!!! I wish I could give Kaylee a treat for behaving so well, like ice-cream or something. I guess nursing will have to be enough.
Other than getting the shots, the doctor gave her a check-up. She’s growing up so big and so fast! She now weighs 12lbs. 4oz. and is 22 1/4 in. tall! Some other milestones she’s reached in the past month are that she smiles in reaction to Scott & I, she can bring her hands together, she can pretty much hold her head up, and she’s started laughing.
My thoughts on Immunization Shots
Receiving immunization shots is still a controversial matter, one that I’m sure every parent thinks about. The reason they’re controversial is because you need to weigh the risk vs. the benefit of each shot. For example, one shot they give newborn is for Hepatitis B. Now, the risk of contracting this disease through natural means is minuscule. Like my peers, I first received this shot before entering middle school. But, now they like to give these vaccinations to newborns so that they have the immunity a lot earlier on in life. Also since you need a couple rounds of these vaccinations, they like to start earlier so that if your child is going to be around other children, like in a day-care program, you’re child is protected. The only risk is that your baby could have a reaction to the shot and end up very sick. Nowadays, these shots are perfectly healthy to give to a newborn and the chance of having a bad reaction is slim, but you have to remember that vaccinations are weakened diseases that initiate your body to build antibodies and giving it to an infant whose immune system isn’t quite developed is always a risk. After much research and speaking with other moms, we decided to give Kaylee all of the shots recommended by the pediatrician but will break them up into 2 separate visits so as not to overload her system. She got the first round today and will get the second round in a month. She did so well, I really can’t believe it!

Hey Anna and Scott!
Remember me? Haha, Cole sent me the link!
Happy two month to Kaylee! The pictures are absolutely adorable, the one of her in that little dress is my favorite. I hope you two are enjoying parenthood so far and I would give you advice, but obviously I can’t because I don’t have kids yet… soooo yeah! I can’t wait to finally meet Kaylee on one of our breaks, probably around christmas time. Keep posting! the stories are so funny! Especially the one about rusty. Talk to you guys soon -
All the best,
Catherine!
