It’s amazing being a parent and watching your child go through all of her firsts. The first time she smiled, the first time she giggled, the first time she played with a toy. And we’ve only experienced a couple of them, there are a million more firsts to come.
Then there’s the other kind of firsts – like the first time we could go out together. It signified her growth and being able to be out in the world. The first time I took Kaylee out, my mom, Kaylee, and I went to the Tea Room in Ossining, a cute little restaurant that serves little sandwiches and desserts. It was the strangest experience. For the first time, I was in the real world with a baby! I was a mom! It was very surreal. Also, Kaylee & I were outside the comforts of our home where I could nurse her, change her or dance around with her and soothe her. But she was amazing and slept the entire time. Kaylee has certainly eased me into being out in public with her, she mostly sleeps through the experience.
Well, this week we went to the supermarket for the first time, that was fun and tricky. You have the car seat that you have to put on top of the shopping carts handle bars, which is nerve-racking, and I’m focused on keeping her asleep, but again it was such an accomplishment.
But, last night was a huge first…Kaylee slept from 11:30p – 6:30am! 7 hours straight!!! She woke up to nurse at 6:30a and went back to sleep at 7:00a and she’s still sleeping now (it’s 10:30a). That’s absolutely amazing! So, this morning I’m celebrating her most recent first with a cup of coffee and a relaxing morning.
How extraordinary.

Sounds exciting! Love, Uncle Joady
Taking Kaylee out is a big first. I think you’re more worried than she’ll ever be. People are used to babies crying or whatever else they might do. How nice to be able to take her out, both for her and for you. Enjoy1
