How do you get to Carnegie Hall?

Practice, practice, practice

(or be a Guthrie)

It’s been a family tradition for as long as I can remember that us Guthrie’s get together the Saturday night after Thanksgiving to attend my uncle Arlo’s annual concert at Carnegie Hall. It’s the one night every year that we get to be together as a family. It’s always a little chaotic, running around backstage trying to give hugs and kisses to each other…there are a lot of us.

Since we had Kaylee this year, Scott and I went in early to see the family and then planned on leaving when the show began. Well, we ended up staying for the entire concert! Scott watched the first half of the concert in the seats while I hung out backstage with my cousins and their new daughters. What a sight, us new moms nursing our little babies. I was reminiscing with Sarah Lee about when we were 5 years old and running around playing hide-and-seek all over the Carnegie auditorium and now here we were with our babies. What a wonderful moment!

In the concert program booklet this year the producer (Arlo’s daughter, Annie) welcomed all the new little Guthrie’s, “This year the family’s new arrivals will enter into his tradition, our family event where we all come together to celebrate Thanksgiving.”

Then at the end of the concert Arlo invited the whole family to join him on stage to sing Woody’s song My Peace and Leadbelly’s song Goodnight Irene. And so Kaylee got her first moment on the stage of Carnegie Hall! She was great! A regular on stage, no stage fright or anything.

Just another fun night with our little munchkin!

Love to all, Nancy
