Happy Easter from the Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny visited Kaylee today and left what was Kaylee’s very first Easter basket. It was a beach pail with a plastic shovel, a fuzzy stuffed bunny and three floaty fish for the tub. The toy fish were very appropriate considering how much Kaylee loves taking a bath. The Easter Bunny knows her well.

We thought the Easter Bunny knew Kaylee well, until that is, Kaylee got her very second Easter basket of her life. Wait, two Easter baskets???

Why would the Easter Bunny deliver two Easter baskets? Luckily as Kaylee pondered this question of a possible slip-up, she fell asleep…

Tonight, Kaylee decided to break 2 huge milestones in her development.  Number 1 was crawling!  She made short yet distinctive inches forward towards Anna and I.  It was adorable and exciting at the same time.

The second milestone was standing up on her own.  I was able to capture the second on video so all could see.  Enjoy…

Go to sleep, little sleep eye…a new mom’s lesson

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
Go to sleep, little sleep eye

This little lullaby, written by my grandfather, has been putting Kaylee to sleep the last couple of nights.  It’s so sweet – Woody & Arlo singing her to sleep.

You will all get a kick out of what this new mom figured out in the last 2 nights.  Here’s the story…

Kaylee has not yet slept through the night, she’s not even close.  When she was 2 months old she started waking up every hour – hour and a half at night.  I’d pick her up out of her bassinet (the one Cole used), bring her into her nursery, nurse her back to sleep, and spend 20 minutes or so putting her back down.  Finally after 2 months of that rediculousness, I brought her into bed with Scott & I.

Since then, she still wakes up just as often but now she nurses for 5 – 10 minutes and falls back asleep, I slide her off my lap and fall back to sleep.  Since starting this family bed, I’ve been getting MUCH more sleep, thank heavens!  She’s obviously moved out of her bassinet and into her pack-n-play.

Two weeks ago I decided to put her into her crib (in her nursery) so maybe she could start self-soothing.  It’s been awesome!  When I go to bed I don’t have to tip-toe around my bedroom, worrying that the floor will creak and wake her…what a delight!  She still ends up back in bed with us around 12:00-1:00a, and wakes up every hour or two.  Scott & I have been enjoying cuddling with our little angel, so it’s been fine with us.

Mommy & Kaylee sleeping

Well, two nights ago she woke up every 45 minutes and by 5:30a I had woken up like 7 or 8 times and I almost lost my mind.  So last night I decided to let her stay in her crib all night.  You’ll never guess what happened!!!

Instead of waking up every hour, she only woke up to nurse once!!!  She woke up and put herself back to sleep twice and once I went in to nurse her.  I couldn’t believe it.  I actually think that I was waking her up all along and neither of us were sleeping well.  How funny!?!?!  I finally decide to let go a little, let her sleep in her own bed, and she LOVED it!

Some lessons are harder to learn than others – but how funny!  We’ll see how tonight goes, but regardless I got 3-4 hours of consecutive sleep for what feels likt the first time since she was 2 months old.  Whew!
